In this paper, geometrically exact fully intrinsic equations and variational asymptotic beam sections are used to study the buckling and postbuckling of a column under self-weight. Initial curvature effects both generalized one-dimensional beam equations and the cross-sectional stiffness properties. The effects of initial curvature have been studied on buckling and postbuckling in this paper. This problem is a valuable test case for the utility of the fully intrinsic equations and variational asymptotic beam sections.
