In the present paper, flow fields around a semi-planing hull with a transom stern habe been studied experimentally and numerically. Flow fields around the hull are measured at the towing tank of Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO). Wave elevations and velocity fields on several cross-sections lying behind of the stern as well as the total resistance itself are measured and wave pattern analyses are performed. Paint tests are also done and surface pressure distributions are measured to investigate the flow characteristics in more details. Then, the flow field is simulated by a numerical method utilizing a Marker and Cell type finite difference method and compared to the measurements at the design speed of 21 knots. The effect of the hull attitude is considered in the numerical computation to show good agreements with experiment ones.
