The GMDSS introduced at the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea aims to change the current system completely by using the whole of the technologies so far accumulated. It has various kinds of wireless facilities to be installed in ships, such as digital selective call, navigation telex receivers, maritime safety information receivers, and a satellite emergency position-indicating radio beacon.
