Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) for aircrafts is performed by certified companies. Additive Manufacturing carries enormous potential to apply a demand driven production and supply chain to these processes. Besides design advantages of AM parts, the technology allows to reduce purchasing and stocking of parts. The European research project RepAIR (www.repair.eu) intends to utilise these opportunities in a set of complementary case studies; these case studies take into consideration all processes and activities and corresponding challenges for the application of AM in comparison with traditional manufacturing techniques. This paper presents an overview of RepAIR. This description is complemented by results of a survey on projects and initiatives in the European Research Area, especially in the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission.
