This paper gives an understanding of the importance of energy consumption for Electric Vehicle (EV) development and shows measures how to increase the energy efficiency and consequently the driving range by using certain vehicle system design approaches. To take the focus on the vehicle system level, we figure out potential areas for energy optimization are located at thermal management, auxiliary energy consumption, regenerative braking, efficiency of electric motor and controller, driving cycles, etc. With holistic optimization of all the aspects, EV can reach personal mobility requirement for most of the daily use.
