In region of high angle-of-attack, pilots are not only concerned with the value of angle-of-attack, but also the angle rate, which is a measure of the aggressiveness approaching. Using phase plane method, dual protection targets: angle-of-attack and its rate limitation are proposed. A two-degree-of-freedom angle-of-attack protection control law is designed, comprised of desired command model and a Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller. The frequency shaping technique is used to optimize the feedback gain, which simplifies the selecting the weight matrixes Q and R. The simulation results show that the dual targets protection control law effectively prevents angle-of-attack overshoot. At the same time, the pseudo-linear characteristic of the angle-of-attack rate is maintained, that make the angle-of-attack dynamic is predictable.
