Applications of narrow-bandwith laser include remote sensing and high-resolution spectroscopy. Scanning XeCl oscillator/ring-laser amplifier produces narrow spectral bandwidth (less than 0.003nm) over tuning range of 307.5 to 308.5 nm. Ring configuration has following advantages: oscillator decoupled from amplifier, output unidirectional, output beam uniform and inexpensive optics allow variable output coupling and cavity length.
