The report emphasizes two main areas of effort: work performed on a profilometer unit in order to make it operational, and operating procedures followed in use of the unit in 1967 and 1968. Once the unit had been made operational, the profilometer was used to establish pavement serviceability indices for selected sections of roadway in pursuance of the goals of determining standards of pavement condition and of finding a means of determining when pavements should be resurfaced or reconstructed.
