In this paper we present an investigation of the frustrated-total-internal-reflection (FTIR) phenomenon and its application to intensity-modulated fiber sensors. The sensor design offers simple potential replacement with sapphire fibers for high temperature (>1000 C) applications. We also discuss results for a prototype FTIR-based fiber pressure sensor.
