The present disclosure relates to a method including forming a plurality of components via an additive manufacturing process to define an integral reinforcement member and reinforcing a corner member of a vehicle pillar with the integral reinforcement member. The plurality of components include a first component and a second component. The first and second components formed integrally as a single unit. The first component and the second component include a functionally graded material that is deposited on the corner member via the additive manufacturing process.
