The invention relates to a steering assembly (10) for a vehicle steering system in which the mounting force required to set a latching connection between an airbag module and a vehicle steering wheel is especially low. The steering assembly (10) comprises: a first coupling component, especially an airbag module (16), including at least one latch hook (12); and a second coupling component, especially a mounting plate (18), including a pre-mounted spring member (14). The two coupling components are movable toward each other along a mounting axis (A) until a portion of the spring member (14) is coupled behind the at least one latch hook (12) at a fixing position to connect the coupling components to each other. The spring member (14) is movable between a coupling position at which the spring member (14) is largely relaxed to be coupled behind the at least one latch hook (12) and a release position at which the spring member (14) is contracted to be separated from the latch hook (12) in a lateral direction with respect to the mounting axis (A). The second coupling component includes a retaining member (22) to fix the spring member (14) at the release position.
