The present invention relates to a device and a method for controlling a speed when a vehicle runs downhill, which is configured to allow a driver to freely select a speed when a vehicle runs downhill while controlling the speed of the vehicle so as to make the vehicle go down at a predetermined speed. The present invention includes: a hydraulic electric control unit (HECU) for calculating a control speed to be controlled when a vehicle runs downhill based on an accelerator pedal value, a brake pedal value, a wheel speed value, and a longitudinal acceleration value and for generating a brake control signal based on the calculated control speed; and a brake caliper which is driven in accordance with the brake control signal output from the HECU so as to perform a braking operation and adjust the speed of the vehicle during downhill running.

    언덕 내리막 주행 시 운전자에게 속도 선택의 자유를 부여하면서도 차량의 속도를 가변적으로 제어하여 적절한 속도로 하행할 수 있도록 한 언덕 내리막 주행 시 속도 제어장치 및 그 방법에 관한 것으로서, 엑셀 페달 값과 브레이크 페달 값과 휠 속도 값 및 종가속도 값을 기초로 언덕 내리막 주행 시 제어할 제어 속도를 산출하고, 산출한 제어 속도를 기반으로 브레이크 제어신호를 발생하는 HECU(Hydraulic Electric Control Unit); 및 상기 HECU에서 출력되는 브레이크 제어신호에 따라 구동하여 브레이킹 동작을 수행하여 언덕 내리막 주행 시 속도를 조절하는 브레이크 캘리퍼를 포함하여 언덕 내리막 주행 시 속도 제어장치를 구현한다.
