PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to obtain the self-support stability of an air bag without increasing the pressure of an inflator while minimizing an increase in the size of the air bag by an inexpensive structure.SOLUTION: The sideways width Wa of the contact part 2a of the instrument panel 3 of an air bag 2 is made greater than the sideways width Wb of the part (the upper-face opening portion of a case 6) attached to the instrument panel 3. Thus, the area where the air bat 2 comes into contact with the instrument panel 3 increases. Accordingly, compared to a case where the area of the contact is small, the large area of the contact between the air bag 2 and instrument panel 3 can be ensured, thereby increasing reaction force (R in Fig. 3), and the self-supporting stability of the air bag 2 can be improved without increasing the inner pressure of the air bag 2, while minimizing an increase in the size of the air bag 2.
【課題】安価な構成により、エアバッグの大型化を最小限に抑えつつ、インフレータを高圧化せずにエアバッグの自立安定性が得られるようにする。【解決手段】エアバッグ２のインストルメントパネル３の接触部２ａにおける左右方向の幅Ｗａを、インストルメントパネル３への取り付け部（ケース６の上面開口部分）における左右方向の幅Ｗｂよりも大きくする。これにより、エアバッグ２がインストルメントパネル３に接触する面積を大きくし、接触面積が小さい場合に比べて、エアバッグ２のインストルメントパネル３との大きな接触面積を確保して上向きの反力（図３中のＲ）を増大でき、エアバッグ２の大型化を最小限に抑えつつ、エアバッグ２の内圧を上げずにエアバッグ２の自立安定性を向上できる。【選択図】図１
