A floating pontoon type breakwater device. The device has a pair of elongate tanks (1) connected by cross braces (2). Each tank has a series of compartments for creating water jets from the wave energy. Water enters through funnel shaped inlets 4, into compartment 6 which then passes into compartments 8, via pipe 11, and is sprayed from tubes (3) having one-way valves (303). Closed compartments 6 and 8 are separated by compartment 7 having an open base. Wave incident on the device causes water to enter through funnels, the movement also creating a pressure differential in compartment 7 because of its open base. Air is drawn in through one-way inlet 10 and forced out through one-way valve 9 into water compartment 8, displacing and forcing water up through pipe 3. Another outlet 5 allows excess air to discharge. The open space between cross braces and tanks serves as a “moon pool” and absorbs wave energy. Movies or advertisement may be projected onto the spray curtain created by the breakwater.
