A method comprising determining a type of tyre blowout based on the tyre location and real time steering angle, and consequently limiting the vehicle powertrain or brakes based on the type of blowout. Preferably, braking is limited for a front tyre blowout, and the powertrain is limited for a rear tyre blowout. For a steering angle greater than zero, a front inside blowout could result in a first amount of limited braking, and a front outside blowout could induce an amount of braking less than the first amount. For rear inside and outside blowouts during a greater than zero steering angle, the powertrain is limited by a first amount and a smaller second amount, respectively. Such limitations could be used in lane keeping or stability systems. The method is executed via a computer processor.
