Aircraft constitutes next-generation rotary-wing research aircraft, aimed at providing technology base for rotary-wing aircraft having speed capabilities in 300 to 350 knot speed range; approach to program is to combine into one aircraft hover efficiency and downwash velocities of helicopter and high-speed efficiency of fixed-wing aircraft; to obtain desired speed, rotor drag in high-speed flight must be reduced or eliminated by altering mode of operation of rotor; possible solutions are considered.
