Besides wireless communications, radio‐frequency signals have also enabled another emerging technology, namely, wireless power transfer (WPT), which is envisioned to be a promising solution to provide perpetual and cost‐effective energy supplies to low‐power electronic devices in future Internet‐of‐Things wireless networks. Different from the prior studies and motivated by the success of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) enabled wireless communications, in this chapter the authors propose a radically novel architecture for WPT systems by utilizing UAVs as flying energy transmitters. They present the UAV‐enabled WPT system model and the optimal solution to the sum‐energy maximization problem. The authors also present the optimal solutions to the min‐energy maximization problem for two cases without and with the UAV maximum speed constraint, respectively. They provide numerical results to validate the effectiveness of proposed trajectory designs.
