A joint demonstration program of the U.S. Department of Defense, Canadian Department of National Defence, Industry Canada, and private sector companies is described. The purpose of the program is to demonstrate and validate high-velocity oxygen-fuel (HVOF) thermal spray coatings as a replacement for hard chrome on various types of aircraft components, and to put HVOF into production at several aircraft maintenance facilities. HVOF thermal spray coatings provide enhanced performance while mitigating the environmental problems of hard chrome plating.
