The U.S. Air Force operates hundreds of different types of military unique mobile source equipment including aircraft, vehicles, and aerospace ground support equipment (AGSE). Preparation of air emissions inventories for satisfaction of Clean Air Act (CAA) requirements the development and use of military unique emissions factors. This paper discusses military emissions factors from mobile sources at typical U.S. Air Force installations and process automation for calculating emissions from military mobile sources through development of a software program. Currently available software programs do not incorporate military unique mobile source emissions factors. To automate and improve the quality and consistency of mobile source inventories at U.S. Air Force installations, a software program, AVA (Aircraft, Vehicles, AGSE), was developed. The program provides air quality managers with a user-friendly software program designed specifically for calculating monthly and annual mobile source air emissions at U.S. Air Force installations. Specific AVA features include: 1) Emissions factors for aircraft/jet engines using JP-4, JP-5, and JP-8 fuels, 2) Vehicle emissions factors, and 3) AGSE emission factors using diesel and JP-8 fuels. An analysis of the software, capabilities, and impacts are included.
