This paper describes recent advances in coupled stamping-fatigue simulations. The aim of the research was to develop an efficient method that enables design engineers to check quickly the sheet forming effects on a car body structure and to improve the accuracy of fatigue simulations. Important factors controlling the vehicle body structure design such as thickness reductions and work hardening distribution can be taken into account easily and accuratly. The breakthrough has been made possible thanks to the use of a common mesh for both stamping and fatigue F.E.M analsysis. A detailed description of this method is given below along with presentation of the car component that has been used to estimate the potential gains. In the automotive industry, it is expected that the product/process designers will profit of these coupled methodology, with significant reduction of cost and delays of vehicle body development.
