Sea trial experience of the first passenger cruiser with podded propulsers

Propulsive performance and manoeuvring characteristics of the well proven cruise ship type with a novel propulsion arrangement were tested during the sea trial of M/S Elation. The extensive test program included also cavitation observations and pressure pulse measurements. The excellent results of these tests are described in the paper with some comparisons to the model test predictions. The superior performance of the Elation is also compared to the performance of the sister ships with conventional diesel-electric propulsion system.
