Two types of tracked tractors, one with rubber tracks CAT Challenger 35 (131 kW) and one with metal tracks Fiat Allis 150 (114 kW) were examined in field experiments on cultivated soil in order to establish their tractive performance and compacting effects resulting from one, three and four passes on the same trace. The tractive performance was determined on alfa-alfa meadow and also on concrete for the rubber tracked tractor through the measurement of the following parameters: traction coefficient, rolling resistance, tractive efficiency. A mobility adimensional index applying to rubber tracked tractors is presented in order to compare different rubber tracked tractors. The soil compaction was determined through the following parameters: soil penetration resistance, bulk density and its increment ratio and pressure distribution on soil along the length of the tracks.
