A method for generating the car configurations based on Beta-splines and shape-averaging techniques is proposed in this study. A basic car model can be constructed with several cross-sections, which are created in two different ways. One is to get them by splitting a mock-up, which is made into parts based on a image perception. The other is directly constructed by the designer on the monitor with mouse. After these sections are constructed, a basic car can be generated with Beta-splines by regulating their biasis and tensions. A new car shape can further be created by synthesizing two or more basic models using weighted mean or weighted generalized mean methods. In addition, these car models can be input to Alias system with IGES (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) data file and to 3D Studio system with DXF (Data Exchange Format) file to render their configuration.
