The quality control is an essential action in today's industry. However, due to the characteristics of the elements to be analyzed and the production volume, there is a need of introducing advanced control systems. Experience shows that the machine vision is an extremely useful tool to perform these tasks. However, most of the times it is needed to develop systems and/or algorithms that, in a different way from the traditional ones, incorporate inherent advantages. This is the case of the developed system that is introduced in this paper: An automated quality control system based on machine vision techniques for forging parts. The system, implemented on a rotary machine and equipped with several workstations perform a dimensional control of the parts as well as crack detection. This way, two machine vision methods are joined. On one hand a traditional dimensional control, as far as the elements that form it are concerned and another more advanced like crack detection which has forced the development of specific algorithms for identification and recognition.
