The EH101 has been designed by E.H. Industries (a joint company of Agusta and Westland) in Europe as a multi-role, medium helicopter which can fulfil shipborne and military support tasks. The U.S. Marine Corps have a need to replace its CH46 helicopters over the course of the 1990's. This paper examines the EH101 design and capabilities with respect to maritime assault missions. There is also some discussion of the studies carried out by E.H. Industries on the possibility of improvements which would further enhance its suitability to this role. Features of the design examined include the folding system, landing gear, tail rotor, the main cabin and rear ramp. It is also shown that by a simple upgrade if the transmission and engines a full compliance with the Marines mission is possible.
