This paper describes a novel ignition system that derives its energy from a special form of alternator that is attached to the engine crankshaft. The paper shows how the alternator is constructed in such a way as to have no bearing or wearing parts. A magnetic ring assembly that is attached to either the fan belt pulley of the flywheel of the engine is the heart of this generator system. Selection of the type magnetic materials used and how the magnets are placed to obtain maximum benefit from their energy content is also discussed. Also discussed is how the generator windings are placed and how the electronics were designed to male optimum use of those windings. Also explained is the Hall effect trigger system and how the voltage is derived to operate the Hall effect device. Voltage curves that show how both low and high engine speeds are accomodated are explained. A comparison is developed to show how the performance of this new system overcomes the disadvantages of the original equipment systems design. Specific advantages of crankshaft triggerring and additional energy delivered to the spark plug will be shown.
