Any comparison of an automotive, of a product in general, should be made in reference to either another automotive, or an idealized one or one having its performances determined as a statistical average. The probability of 'success' or 'failure' depends on the values of performances. The information theory shows how to use the notion of probability to characterize the entropic states of the systems and to establish the degree of organization. A high technical level can be achieved either by increasing some parameters (specific power, yield, speed, etc.) or by reducing other parameters (specific consumption, specific weight, etc.) in a proper rate. For these reasons, in order to evidence the disorganizational level, respectively the deviation from the value of the reference parameter characterized by zero entropy, the paper deals with entropies in an 'entropic sense'. By this method, a synthetic indicator of the technical level measurable in informational units (bits) is obtained. Applications on tractors are performed. The logical scheme obtained illustrates the possibility of automatic data processing. The method enables the identification and coordination of product modernization and development.
