The requirement for greater confidence in the fatigue integrity of welded, steel offshore structures, subjected to the harsh environment of the North Sea, has become increasingly important to the offshore industry. This paper presents the results of fatigue life prediction analyses that have been performed on the large bank of experimental data that has been generated at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL). These analyses have investigated the influence of various parameters on the validity of the Palmgren-Miner linear cumulative fatigue damage rule: in particular specimen type and choice of base, constant amplitude, S-N data.
