This paper describes experience gained while using offline robot programming in differnt aerospace projects. One uses painting robots to coat parts described by double-complex CAD surfaces. This data came to the offline system through a custom data format. The other application is of offline programming of robots for the camouflage painting of a part. That data was moved to the offline station using IGES descriptions of splines and three-dimensional lines. Practical experience is stressed and suggestions are given for further work in the area of programming offline from complex CAD geometries.
