The paper presents an integrated design and engineering environment (ICEM), that allows simultaneous design and engineering activities based on a common geometrical model. Efficient pre- and postprocessing tools to create complex simulation models as well as to evaluate the increasing amount of result data are presented. The integration of various types of simulation analyses (e.g. crash analysis, sheet metal forming simulation) into the design environment is shown. The benefits of this simultaneous engineering approach are demonstrated by solutions of complex highly nonlinear problems in the area of crash analysis and sheet metal forming.
