The latest instrumentation and control systems used in the North Sea for oil and gas production and processing are examined. Distributed control systems are often used, and an integrated systems management approach is used to provide transfer of all information between onshore and offshore sites. Emergency shutdown and monitoring systems are considered; these are usually separate from the integrated systems.
