Aerospatiale restructures its metrology: a metrology pole in Aquitania

The author describes the centre established at Saint Medard en Jalles in 1987 to meet calibration needs of the aerospace industry. She lists the areas of qualification by the National Bureau of Metrology as electricity, frequency, dimensional measurement, pressure, high temperatures and vibration. The ranges of measurement covered in some of these fields are stated, and the usefulness of the facilities to regional industries is highlighted. In particular, a large 3D coordinate measuring machine and a pyrometer calibration bench are considered.
