The distributed C3 test bed, with a simulation and war gaming capability, will provide freedom from the constraints of time and spatial domains characteristic of research involving operational systems. Through the use of the war game or simulation, the rate, or intensity, of combat activity can be increased or decreased according to the needs of the researchers. In addition, the functional and/or geographic separation of C3 centers or nodes can be simulated readily in a relatively small physical area. The distributed C3 test bed also can establish the actual distant node connectivity associated with worldwide C3 systems using satellite, microwave or cable based communications systems. The distributed C3 test bed will consist of flexible combinations of work stations, computer systems, data bases, communications and local C3 networks.
