This contribution deals with asynchronous motor for dieselelectrical traction design. The problems concerning the motor sizes and parameters design are indicated in the paper. The magnetic field distribution in the motor has been analyzed using the FE software. The load characteristics has been obtained using the computer simulation software. The parameters were obtained according to the equivalent scheme of the motor. The motor has been designed as a three phase four pole machine (2p=4) with supposed rated speed n=1470 rpm (with fN = 50 Hz). The maximal supposed supply frequency is fmax = 131.15 Hz (with U = 660 V). The torque overload in this case supposed to be pMmax = 1.25. The speed control can be realized in range of f = 0 - 50 Hz with constant ratio of U/f. For frequencies f less than 50 Hz the supply voltage is constant (U = 660 V). The machine is constructed as a frameless, with external air cooling system. The basic demand was that the motor axial cross section should not be bigger as 500x500 mm, and the length of the machine le should not be longer as 800 mm. The cooling air is 'pushed' into the motor by external fan across the axial cooling channels. These channels are placed in stator and rotor iron core, as can be seen in this paper.
