Canada, France, the Soviet Union and the United States are developing a geostationary satellite-aided search and rescue (SAR) facility to complement the existing COSPAS-SARSAT system. The system uses the 406 MHz beacons developed for the COSPAS-SARSAT system. The space segment will be provided on the GOES-H spacecraft. The paper gives an overview of the design of the Canadian ground station and experimental processor. Test data from some benchmark tests that were conducted on the processor are then presented. It is shown that 90 percent of the time, the processor can output an error-free message within 17 minutes with a link C/No of 27 dB-Hz. Other statistics are presented that describe the processor performance. Some plans for future development of the processor are then given.
