Besides being unrivalled as regards environmental friendliness, electrostatic powder coating affords so many technical and economical advantages that new fields of application for the process are being developed all the time. For the plant constructor, many of these new fields of application represent real challenges. Various practical examples are given for new powder coating plants: a bodyshell clear-coat powder coating line for the automobile industry, a coating line which applies a single layer of acrylate-based metallic powder as a finish (for the Mercedes Smart) which saves two coating operations, an innovative materials-handling system for extremely bulky and heavy workpieces, a system for small parts with high throughput (8000 items/h) a coating line with a rapid color change system.
