Next-generation agricultural systems are modular and highly automated. This is possible because they possess not only physical interfaces but also electronic interfaces, which enable the integration and collaboration of different machines and devices on the field. Tractor implement management is an umbrella term that subsumes such integration and automation of tractors and implements, with the implement assuming control over tractor functions in order to autonomously perform its specific tasks. Such dynamic and flexible integration is very challenging from a safety assurance and certification perspective because it is impossible to foresee all possible system (of systems) combinations at development time already. As a solution approach, we propose modular conditional safety certificates.
