A research of surface electrostatic discharges (ESD) influence on cover glasses (CG) and fragments of a solar array (SA) consisting of triple-junction solar elements (SE) was carried out when simulating geostationary orbit (GEO) hot magnetospheric plasma in the on-ground conditions. Discharge channel locations, their configurations and sizes as well as cracks existence were detected by means of optical microscopy. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and local X-ray spectrum analysis (LXSA) local areas enriched with mobile ions of the glass (Na, K, Ce) were revealed on the surface of SA fragments around central discharge channels (craters). It was found that changes of optical and electrical properties of SA fragments were determined by the number of ESD.
