Currently, Sanyo Shinkansen is in commercial operation at top speed 300km/h, and 16-car and 8-car trains running depending on the passenger volume. So far we have spent a great effort to achieve environmental standards of Japan, and the environment along railway tracks has been greatly improved. However, because population continues to increase in developed areas along the railroad, it is essential to further reduce noise and vibration in order to continue to provide high-speed transport services in the future. Therefore, we are developing technologies that focus on differences in noise levels of 16-car and 8-car trains. In this paper, we introduce two recent measures for noise reduction. One is the development of current collector applied to 8-car train, the second is the development to reduce the noise from the gaps between cars.
