This paper outlined the impact of systems modeling on preliminary aircraft design. It has been shown that required power off-takes have a significant influence on engine efficiency (SFC). Hence, higher fuel consumption and higher aircraft weights arises when considering power off-takes in preliminary design. The ILR systems model allows for sizing of the entire systems architecture, and for estimating the required power off-takes. Including the systems model in preliminary design shows that the estimated MTOW of the reference aircraft design increased by approximately 4 % due to the effects of power off-takes alone. Thus, the impact is not neglectable within preliminary aircraft design. Furthermore, the ILR model allows for investigating different operational measures for improved efficiency.
