This paper presented an investigation on the effectiveness of rollover prevention systems. Two systems, the UCC and the AARB plus ESC, were designed and simulations were performed to compare these systems in terms of the lateral acceleration, the roll angle, and the RI. Through the open-loop simulations, it was verified that a reduction in lateral acceleration could be achieved by the LSC whereas ESC with differential braking has an insignificant effect on this parameter. Both the CDC and AARB can reduce the roll angle. From these facts, it can be concluded that UCC uses LSC and CDC to reduce the possibility of rollover whereas in the AARB plus ESC system it is the AARB that is solely responsible for rollover prevention. This conclusion is also supported by the closed-loop simulations. Both sets of simulations highlight that the AARB plus ESC system is more effective than the UCC system in preventing rollover in that it provided the smallest RI with the smaller braking levels and yaw rate errors.
