This paper presents the ground station monitoring and control simulator that is being studied at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) based on the Software Infrastructure for the Modelling of SATellites infrastructure (SIMSAT) which is used in general for simulation and validation in the telemetry and telecommand chains. It gives an introduction to the ground station monitoring and control and addresses the need for a simulation tool supporting validation of ground station operations procedures and training of staff. It outlines the reference architecture of the simulator being studied, based on Simulation Model Portability 2 (SMP2) compliant ground station equipment monitoring and control models.
