Small permanent magnet synchronous motor technology - An overview
This paper intends to offer a comprehensive overview of small permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) technology. The importance of this type of electric machines and drives is increasing mainly due to their high energy efficiency and high torque density. Both, sinusoidal (BLAC) and trapezoidal (BLDC) types of machines and drives will be treated. Aspects related to electromagnetic and thermal modelling and analysis, design, materials, manufacturing technology, design and analysis software-tools, and control methods will be presented. Finally a case study will be considered.
