The Hydraulik-Ring GmbH is the series supplier of the solenoid valves for the first double clutch transmission (DCT) with dry clutches presented by Volkswagen in August 2007. The DQ200 uses a hydraulic control system based on technologies known from automated manual transmission (AMT) applications. The Hydraulik-Ring GmbH has a more than 10 years long history in AMT applications and offers a construction kit of direct acting variable force solenoid (VFS) valves. Based on this construction kit the series development for the DQ200 was started. The usage of a power pack solution in the DQ200 for the control system pressure supply permits a demand orientated control energy consumption combined with the advantages of high control dynamic and flexible package. This article introduces the design of the valve blocks including the solenoid valves and their requirements. The strongly contrary requirements leakage, hysteresis and dynamic as well as the theory of each parameter are discussed. A numerical method for an efficient optimization of the tolerances for the hydraulic parts and thereby the leakage is described. Based on measurement data the interaction of the solenoid valve parameters and the ability to adjust them with the control signal is shown. Different manufacturing processes for the valve control edges are investigated with respect to leakage and controllability. Referring to the origin construction kit the design and technology changes for cost reduction for this high volume application are shown. At least the series assembly and testing line for high volume production is described.
