A mesh modification capability based on intelligent mesh morphing concept was developed. Significant improvements in terms of redesign evaluation time can be obtained. This research fits the overall objective to adress the critical issues that currently limit the performance and further breakthrough of virtual prototyping approach (Van de Auweraer et al., 2003). First, example cases have been used to show that the developed methodology offers many benefits not only for the detailed FE-based design but also for concept-level studies and for fast design variant evaluation. Then, the article has focused on the state-of-the-use of mesh morphing in a vehicle development process. Prior to control block creation, it is essential to select the appropriate model for morphing as well as the new styling data. The next steps involve the creation of OCBs and DCBs. The creation of the second set of control blocks is most time-consuming and it involves a series of morphing operations that may need to be executed iterivately in order to obtain adequate results. After morphing the original FEM using the two sets of control blocks, some model refinement will be necessary in order to prepare the model for analysis. Remeshing operations should be minimised as much as possible by an appropriate quality of the control blocks.
