This paper evaluates the benefit of skyhook control approaches in vertical secondary suspensions of high speed railway vehicles, compared to passive suspensions which are tuned optimally. The comfort is quantified by simulating a linear sideview vertical model with ideal sensors and actors on a track which consists of a stochastic disturbance and a deterministic component representing the worst-case in high speed services. It is shown that the passenger comfort can be increased while the suspension deflection maintains on the same level. However, the performance turns out to be sensitive to the track characteristics.
