On 20 December 2005, Internet access in ICE trains was presented at a large media conference and then demonstrated publicly on a special train run for the media. The overall reaction to this innovation was encouragingly positive and represented an incentive to those working on the Railnet project to continue their work in an optimistic mood. Since that day, the hot-spot service has been available for use by anyone onboard the seven equipped trains running between the cities of Cologne and Dortmund. On other parts of the network, the new system provides content stored onboard rather than fresh material. The project planners are aiming to have all ICE train sets equipped with wireless Internet access by 2010.
