Seven commercially available gas-transferring units used by Russian Gasprom Company for transit compressor stations (consumed power 4 MW to 25 MW, output pressure 5.6 MPa to 12.5 MPa, flow capacity 4.5 Mm3/day to 46 Mm3/day) were characterized. A program for modernization and reconstruction of the units was prepared by thr R&D Institute for Gas to reduce costs of gas compression. Standardization of power units (2.5 MW to 16 MW) was proposed. Use of centrifugal compressors with prestator blades, hydraulic torque converters (to change the engine speed) and frequency-controlled electrical drives was recommended. The structural schemes of perspective series of the gas-transferring units were presented. (ELMAS-2002, Fourth Inter. Symp., RU)
