The optimisation of the suspension system of a train is dependent of the human perception to vibrations. The human perception is among others things depending of the frequency of the vibrations. These frequency dependencies are usually described by applying well-known weighting filters defined by different organisations. This paper describes an experimental study when a number of persons during writing and reading were exposed to lateral vibrations with different frequencies. The test persons were asked to judge the degree of disturbance each frequency caused. These test results are analysed and compared to the well-known weighting filters.
