Increasing driving comfort while reducing fuel consumption - these two are conflicting objectives in the general development process of a vehicle. Integrated Powertrain Management (IPM) and Dual Energy Supply (DES) are a contribution to solve this conflict by optimizing the interaction between internal combustion engine, automatic transmission, electrical motor (e.g. Integrated Starter Generator or Side mounted Starter Generator) and energy storage. This paper demonstrates the enhanced value of a mild hybrid vehicle featuring corresponding additional functions implemented in software by the example of an ISG - AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) drivetrain. This paper also gives an overview of a highly dynamic energy storage system. The resulting fuel savings effect based on the IPM and DES system is significant.
